Crum Holds Onto Points Lead: One Race Left in UARA Stars Season

Statesville. NC: Jake “the snake” Crum was not going to let the cold air, on Saturday night at Caraway Speedway in Asheboro, NC, slow him down as he continued to hunt for the championship in the UARA Stars. With a ninth place finish, in the #1 Chevrolet, Crum knows the championship is still within striking distance.

With almost seven months since the last time he had been on a track this cold, the team made sure to take a cautious approach to their driving during practice, qualifying and the race.

“There were a couple of cars that lost it during practice and qualifying and we knew it would be better to start at the back of the group with car in tact then to not be able to race,” said team owner Billy Crum. “With the points lead hanging on the line we have to be careful of what we do.”

Crum started the race 16th right behind #72 Richard Boswell who was tied for second in points with #55 Alex Yontz, behind Crum. Crum started off the night riding behind Boswell as they both began to make their way through the field. On lap 19 Crum went for the pass and jumped ahead.

On lap 45 Crum used his experience to avoid an accident that took place in front of him.

“I knew the accident was going to happen,” Crum told UARA Announcer Doc Love while talking over the PA system during the caution. “They had been pushing each other for awhile, it was just a matter of time before they wrecked.”

When the green flag waved again Crum was restarting in the top ten. Boswell was hot on his bumper trying to make the pass. On lap 59 after passing a couple other cars, Crum was passed by Boswell and moved back to ninth place.

“I am very proud of the way Jake raced tonight,” said Billy Crum. “He knew how to stay focused. He had a good run and we still have the points lead, so it was a good night. We just have to do the same thing again next week in Concord.”

Crum is 35 points ahead of Yonts and 49 points ahead of Boswell. He has 1 pole, 2 wins, 10 top five and 11 top ten finishes in 15 starts. Team Crum Racing will be heading down to Concord Motorsports Park on Saturday, October 25th for the season finale.
