Crum Make Impact On Super Cup Fans:
Young driver finishes second in first start
Statesville, NC: 2008 UARA Stars Champion Jake Crum decided to try his hand out in a new car this past weekend as he made his debut in the Super Cup Stock Car Series. The 100 lap race took place at the Columbus Motor Speedway in Columbus, OH. His second place finish turned heads throughout the circuit.
Crum qualified 3rd overall in the 18 car field. The top six drivers had to draw for starting positions putting Crum back in 6th. He did not stay there for long. The rookie quickly made a jump on the other cars and was 3rd by the fourth lap. He continued to work until he moved into the second spot.
Once he was sitting in second place he rode most of the race saving the tires. With only eight laps left Crum began to battle side-by-side with leader Tyler Nuckles. Both battled hard trying to gain the lead position bumping and banging.
Crum pulled ahead for a short time. A caution came out with just a couple laps to go. Crum was unable to make a fast enough restart on the worn out tires and slid back to second, where he finished the race.
“We are all very excited with the finish of this race,” said Crum. “A win would have been great, but being the first time I was in a 3400 pound car I think we did great.”
The Super Cup Series start at the end of 2007 and are running steel bodied USAR Pro Cup cars.
